Syed Amjad Hussain is an Indian ethnographer, author, poet, historian, humanitarian and independent research scholar from Jamuara village in Sheikhpura district, Bihar. His interests bring together historical research, Urdu literature, Sufism, Islamic intellectual traditions and the preservation of regional heritage.
His research is especially concerned with Bihar’s Sufi history: the scholars and spiritual figures associated with the region, the khanqahs and dargahs connected with their lives, and the written and oral sources through which their stories have survived. He is interested in bringing lesser-known historical narratives into wider public discussion while treating sources and local traditions with care.
Alongside research, Amjad writes poetry in Urdu language under the penname (takhallus) Amjadؔ. His literary and historical work reflects a continuing interest in the relationship between spiritual life, cultural memory and the social history of Bihar.
“To preserve heritage is to give the next generation a chance to ask new questions of the past.”
As a Humanitarian, he values education, cultural awareness and community engagement. His work is guided by the belief that historical knowledge becomes more meaningful when it is shared beyond specialist circles and made accessible to young readers.
